Tonya Walker-Latimer opened Tonya’s Transcription Service in 1996.

“I wanted to be a stay at home mom after getting custody of my stepson and having a son of my own who was 3. I was offered a part-time at home position consisting of 15 hours a week for a local urologic group, a specialty I have to say I had never tried.

I took the risk and quit my full-time in-house transcription job to give this a go. I was nervous and scared, I was taking the risk of a lifetime! Jumping from a 40 hour week to a 15 hour week with no benefits was a big leap of faith, but I knew that my place was at home with my children.

After starting the 15-hour a week job after some time passed, I had one referral after another and before long had established my self quite well in the community. No advertising needed, word of mouth kept me going and then with the addition of accounts I had to get some help. I was able to find local transcriptionists who were struggling to find work, all having at least 20+ years experience, talk about blessings falling in your lap!

I was able to get a few ladies working and then came more clients and accounts and yes again needed for staff. I have an excellent group of subcontractors and we all work together as a team. As a team we strive to provide the best in quality and quantity to our clients.

We take pleasure in each physician/physical therapist/ aide that we work with. We have an outstanding group of clients and subcontractors. I have been blessed by the medical community here locally in Central Virginia to have been employed for 13+ years providing local transcription services to this area.”
